When I first started the engine there was little
discernible difference in the sound level and,
as I drove away I could still hear the same noises
though significantly muted. It was when I lowered
the door window that the difference first struck
me. Normally the Discovery is very noisy in town
when the windows are wound down - now, it was
quiet. It was a different car.
As I drove towards the Motorway through several
sets of traffic lights up and down the gears,
I could tell just how much more subdued the transmission
noises were: some were eliminated altogether.
The real benefit on the motorway came on those
long climbs that demand prolonged full throttle
to keep the speed up. Under these conditions of
full engine load an old Discovery can develop
a level of noise and vibration that becomes tiring.
Well not mine any more.
The transformation once all of the kit had been
fitted was quite remarkable. Noise levels and
vibrations are down and the car feels much more
substantial and you can really hear the stereo
and have a conversation at 70mph with someone
in the back seats.
When I first started the engine after installation,
I realised what a difference the kit made in muffling
the sound from the engine: its clatter was dulled
quite dramatically. The mats really do perform
extremely well as they have entirely eradicated
the noise from below. My music plays sweetly,
with our conversations quiet yet audible. I was
very impressed with this well-made kit, which
I think should be installed by the manufacturer
of every Motorcaravan. What a difference that
would make.
Now that the Voyager is equipped with a Noisekiller
kit I can hold a conversation without shouting
the entire time. The kit makes sure the engine
noise does not enter the cab by soundproofing
those areas that create those annoying vibrations
rattles and roars.
Noisekiller have updated the kit for the Mini
with new improved materials. The transformation
was remarkable. It made the whole car feel different
even the doors shut with a much more satisfying
clunk and reverberation throughout the body has
been significantly reduced. The bonnet lid and
boot feel much more solid and the carpets feel
more luxurious.
